LIBYA

“Like a roaring lion and a charging bear
Is a wicked ruler over poor people.”

Proverbs 28:15

To change a person’s life, schools, institutions and even prisons are not enough. It has always been and will remain for God to change a man’s character and his daily life. It takes the Holy Spirit to give birth to a man again. When we pray for God to change a man, we rely on Him and not on our own strengths, not on our accumulated knowledge or our theology. In this struggle we use fasting, prayer, but God is the one who brings change. This week we are travelling in prayer to Libya, a country that needs God’s intervention urgently.

The Open Doors organization estimates that more than 100 million Christians worldwide are being persecuted for their faith. This number of persecuted Christians includes Christians in Libya, a country full of cruelty.

The emigrants and refugees from this country face abuses and horrific persecution. Foreign citizens traveling to and from Libya face abuses, including kidnappings for ransom, torture and, in some cases, rape and other forms of sexual violence. The Christian migrants and refugees from Nigeria, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Egypt are particularly targeted, the Amnesty report said. They are subject to abduction, torture, theft and physical assault by criminal and smuggler groups, in addition to abuses by armed groups such as the self-proclaimed Islamic State and Ansar al-Sharia.

What you can’t find in Libya is the freedom of the Christian faith, a country where there is no room for Christians. Any Libyan leader has the authority to ask if someone is a Muslim or a Christian. If you admit being a Christian, then you are in big trouble.

This country needs God’s intervention. This country needs our prayers.

Among those who pray, it could also be me, and it could also be you.
