AFGHANISTAN – The country where women have become a symbol of suffering

The Christian persecution and the violent attacks on the Christian communities are increasing day by day.

The Islamists destroy churches and force Christians to convert to their Muslim religion, or they simply kill them.

According to the „Open Doors” NGO, in 2019 more than 260 million Christians were persecuted worldwide, resulting in one in eight Christians dealing with persecution in one way or another.

These figures are taken from the World Index of Persecution of Christians, published by the organization on January 15, 2020.

The good news is that God has His own way to directly intervene and save the lost souls. His method is to use people in order to fulfill the divine plan.

The Old Testament is full of testimonies that show very clearly how God sent judges, prophets, and even priests to reveal Himself to people.

  • God’s call for Abraham was accompanied by a promise: “All the families of the earth will be blessed” (Genesis 12:3)
  • God told Israel in the wilderness that its obedience to His laws will be a testimony of His greatness before the other nations. (Deuteronomy 4:6-8)
  • David exhorts every man to ”Declare His glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples” (1 Chronicles 16:24). In Psalm 22:27 we can see the announcement of a day when all peoples will turn to God and worship Him.
  • The prophet Isaiah foretells that Israel will become a light for the nations, so that salvation will reach the end of the earth.
  • The prophet Micah saw a day when many nations longed to come to Zion to learn God’s ways. (Micah 4:2)
  • Our Savior Jesus Christ sent His disciples into the world just as He was sent by the Father (John 17:18; 20:2)
  • Today, the missionary work is no longer a duty of just some Christians, but of all Christians.
  • After the resurrection of Jesus, the foundation of Jesus’ teaching on the missionary work was called “The Great Commission”. We, the 21st century Christians, are included as well in this great commission.
  • You and I can be missionaries without going to the ends of the earth. We can be missionaries in AFGHANISTAN through prayer.
  • This week we have the grace to be with those in Afghanistan, the country that ranks 2nd in the World Persecution Index, on violence and pressure against Christians. Imagine a country without any evangelical church. Christians who convert from Islam cannot share their faith. The moment they are discovered, they are sentenced to death.
